What Are Invisalign® Clear Aligners?

Invisalign clear aligners offer a unique way to straighten teeth without interfering with your smile or impacting your life. The revolutionary orthodontic solution uses custom aligners to apply pressure on your teeth, gently and discreetly moving them into alignment. Invisalign’s aligners are made from a clear thermoplastic material known as SmartTrack, making them a virtually invisible and comfortable option to straighten your teeth and perfect your smile.
The Step-By-Step Invisalign® Process

Getting started with Invisalign is easy and stress-free. The process typically includes the following steps:
- Initial Consultation: We will start with a consultation to explain the process, answer your questions, discuss your smile goals, and help determine whether Invisalign is right for you.
- Digital Impressions: Instead of using messy, gooey impressions, we use 3D scanners to create exceptionally precise digital models of your teeth.
- Custom Treatment Plan: We will create a fully customized treatment plan outlining the precise movements of your teeth and the length of treatment - you can even see a preview of your new, improved smile.
- Creating Your Aligners: The Invisalign laboratory will use the 3D models of your teeth to create a series of clear aligners following your custom treatment plan.
- Your Clear Aligner Journey: You will need to wear your aligners for 22 hours a day, only removing them when you eat, drink, brush, and floss.
- Swapping Aligners: About every two weeks, you will swap your current set of aligners for the next set in the series to continue moving your teeth into alignment.
- Progress Check-Ups: You’ll need periodic visits to our office, usually every 6-8 weeks, to ensure your treatment stays on track.
- Retainers: Once you achieve your desired results, you will need to wear custom retainers every night, so your teeth don’t shift back to their original position.
Benefits of Invisalign®

Here is a look at some of the many benefits of Invisalign:
- Discreet Orthodontic Solution: Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible, allowing you to align your teeth and perfect your smile without anyone ever knowing!
- Convenient: You can remove your aligners when eating, drinking, brushing your teeth, and flossing, making it easier to maintain good oral hygiene practices throughout treatment.
- Comfortable: Your clear aligners are made from a smooth and comfortable material that will not irritate or scratch your cheeks and gums, unlike the metal brackets and wires used with conventional braces.
- Improved Oral Health: Aligned teeth are easier to brush and floss effectively, lowering your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, bad breath, and a host of other dental health concerns.
- Protection from Wear: Your clear aligners and retainers are much thinner and more comfortable to wear than occlusal nightguards, offering the added benefit of protecting your teeth from excessive wear caused by grinding and clenching (bruxism).
- Incredible Results: Invisalign can treat most mild to complex orthodontic cases, delivering results that will make you want to smile more!
Living with Invisalign Aligners

Getting orthodontic treatment doesn’t have to mean a mouthful of metal brackets and wires anymore. With Invisalign, teens and adults can work toward a slighter smile without taking away from their appearance in the meantime. Here is a sneak peak of what you can expect life with Invisalign to look like.
Wearing Your Trays

Having removable aligners is beneficial when it comes to eating and cleaning your teeth. However, it also means that you need to be highly disciplined about putting them back into your mouth in a timely manner. This way, your treatment will stay on track. You should try to keep your aligners in for at least 20 to 22 hours each day so that your teeth keep shifting as anticipated. You should only remove them to eat, drink, and clean your teeth and trays.
Cleaning Your Aligners

When you get Invisalign, you don’t need to worry about getting any special products to keep your trays in good condition. All you need is a soft-bristled toothbrush and clean water. Just use the toothbrush to gently brush each surface. If your aligners seem stained or you just want some extra freshness, use your Invisalign cleaning crystals.
Eating & Drinking

Your trays need to be removed when you eat or drink anything that isn’t water. When your trays are removed, you don’t need to stick to any food rules or restrictions. That being said, getting cavities during your Invisalign treatment can slow down your progress, so be mindful of a number of sugary foods and beverages you are consuming and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Losing or Damaging a Tray

When you aren’t wearing your aligners, you should keep them in their case or a safe place to minimize your probability of losing them. If one does become lost, let us know right away so we can tell you what to do next. The same goes for if one of them becomes damaged. You shouldn’t try to repair it on your own. Instead, give our office a call so we can help.
Routine Check-Ins

In addition to getting new aligners during your checkups, we will also examine your smile to ensure that everything looks good. Teeth don’t always move exactly how we expect them to, so adjustments could need to be made. This is also an excellent time to ask any questions you have about your treatment.
